Program Descriptions and Pricing Guide

The GDI offers 2, 3, and 4 week institute programs at various levels of experience and skill.  Rest assured that we have a program that suits your individual needs.  All programs will culminate in the GDI Tournament featuring 6 preliminary rounds of competitive debate clearing to a full double octas elimination rounds bracket.

Four Week Programs

 

Zag Scholars Program:      June 28th - July 26th

See the Zag Scholars page for more details on this exclusive lab. 18 students will be accepted into this 4 week program. If you think you meet the  qualifications we encourage you to apply.

 

Varsity Program:   June 28th - July 26th

The Four Week Varsity Program traditionally attracts highly motivated students interested in a challenging lab atmosphere with the opportunity to work with students of similar skill and experience. This lab is designed for students with a solid understanding of the fundamentals who have experience debating in the top divisions of the tournaments they attend. Students will focus on research and argument development for the first two weeks of institute  The final 2 weeks will be spent in an intensive practice regiment and skill development course.  Throughout the institute students will receive lectures on a wide variety of topics geared toward an advanced experience level.  We strongly encourage all Varsity Program debaters to consider the four week program. The extra week provides invaluable in research and an early understanding of the topic.  Some of our most advanced and specialized lectures will be offered only to these students.

 

Three Week Programs

 

Varsity Program: July 5th - July 26th

The Three Week Varsity Program  provides varsity level students a week of research and argument development focus followed by an intensive practice regiment and skill development course.  Throughout the institute students will receive lectures on a wide variety of topics geared toward an advanced experience level. 

 

Varsity Transition Program: July 5th - June 26th

This program is designed for students who are transitioning from JV or Novice to the Varsity division.  Students will spend the first few days of institute learning advanced research techniques and contributing to the institute research development effort. The final two weeks will focus on practice debates, tournament preparation, lecture, and other skills work.

 

Two Week Programs

 

Varsity Program: July 12th - July 26th

The two week Varsity Program is really designed for students who are unable to attend the three of four week programs.  Although students will have two weeks of intense practice and skills work, including the tournament, there will be minimal focus on research. Students will receive numerous lectures intended to reinforce the fundamentals as well as specialized lectures on a variety of topics.

 

Varsity Transition Program: July 12th - July 26th

This Three Week Program is designed for students who are transitioning from JV or Novice to the Varsity division.  This program will emphasis practice, skills work, and other practical development. There will be a minimal focus on research and more on block writing and tournament preparation. Throughout the institute students will receive lectures on a wide variety of topics. 

 

Junior Varsity Program: July 12th - July 26th

The JV Program at GDI is designed for students who have previously debated in the novice division and are either transitioning to or continuing in Junior Varsity level competition.  The primary focus for this lab is skills development through intensive practice regiment and skills development course.  Throughout the institute students will receive lectures on a wide variety of topics designed for this skill level. 

 

Novice Program: July 12th - July 26th

The Novice Program is designed for students with little to no policy debate experience. Students will focus on skills building and learning the fundamentals of speaking and advocacy.

 

One Week Programs

 

Novice and JV Programs: July 19th - July 26th

For the first time the GDI will offer a commuter program for local novice and junior varsity students. This program offers an abbreviated program which allows students a weeks worth of instruction and practice on the fundamentals as well as the new NFL topic.

Evidence:
All students will have the option to pre purchase a complete copy of the evidence set* for $150.00.  Students who do not wish to pre purchase the evidence set will have the options of purchasing individual printed files during institute.  All students will be provided a complete electronic evidence set on CD at the conclusion of the institute as part of your tuition.

*includes choice of any 2 affirmative files and all the negative files
