The Four Week Varsity Program traditionally attracts highly motivated students interested in a challenging lab atmosphere with the opportunity to work with students of similar skill and experience. This lab is designed for students with a solid understanding of the fundamentals who have experience debating in the top divisions of the tournaments they attend. During the first phase the students will focus on research, strategy and argument development while attending numerous topic specific and argument lectures. During the second phase students will engage in an intensive practice regiment and skill development course.  Throughout the institute students will receive lectures on a wide variety of topics geared toward an advanced experience level.  This program is open to all juniors and seniors with at least 2 semesters of CX experience.  Sophomores will be admitted on a case by case basis.

The Debate Track - July 6 - July 24

Introducing the newest addition to the GDI, The Debate Track. This 19 day program will provide students with approximately 20-25 practice debates on the topic including prelim and possibly elim rounds at our institute tournament. Students will attend interactive lectures and skill building exercises each morning, debate each afternoon, and focus on practical skill work each night including speech redos, block writing, and of course more practice debates.  If you are looking for an immersion program that ensures you'll focus almost exclusively on in round debates then this is for you. Each practice debate will be judged by an experienced faculty or staff member.  The Debate Track will accept any student with at least 1 semester of CX debate experience.

Two Week Programs: July 11 - 24

Varsity Program:  This varsity level program is designed for junior and seniors looking for an abbreviated yet challenging summer program.  Consider this a crash course in preparing and competing for the upcoming season. The GDI Sophomores: This program is designed for students entering their sophomore year  and intend to debate in varsity level division. This lab will be taught by experienced college faculty with strong teaching and coaching credentials.  Students can anticipate an emphasis on practical skills building such as speaking, argument production, and strategy development.

Novice Program: The Novice Program is designed for students with little to no policy debate experience. Students will focus on skills building and learning the fundamentals of speaking and advocacy.   The primary focus for this lab is skills development through intensive practice regiment and skills development course.  Throughout the institute students will receive lectures on a wide variety of topics designed for this skill level.
